A Honduran national, Carlos Masariego Rosales, was sentenced on July 22, 2025, for illegal re-entry into the United States after previously being deported. Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced the sentencing in New Orleans.

Rosales, age 48, was discovered in Jefferson Parish around March 30, 2025. He had been deported to Honduras on November 20, 2006. After pleading guilty to violating Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a), he received a sentence of time served and one year of supervised release. Additionally, he was ordered to pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

The prosecution of this case is part of Operation Take Back America. According to the Department of Justice, this initiative coordinates federal resources to address illegal immigration and combat cartels and transnational criminal organizations. It involves efforts from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

“Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson praised the work of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in investigating this matter.” The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell from the General Crimes Unit.
