A Hammond resident, Kylin Sexton, age 25, was sentenced to time served for possessing marijuana and cocaine hydrochloride. The sentencing took place on July 24, 2025, before U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown in New Orleans. Sexton will also serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.

According to court records, the incident occurred on May 18, 2022. Ponchatoula Police Department officers responded to a complaint at a retail establishment regarding Tyshon Coleman, Sexton’s cousin, who was reportedly in possession of a firearm. Officers located Coleman and Sexton in a vehicle in the parking lot. After ordering Coleman to show his hands and remove himself from the vehicle—orders with which he initially did not comply—officers discovered a loaded Glock Model 17 handgun with an extended magazine and a machine gun conversion device between the passenger seat and center console.

Coleman pleaded guilty to possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and possession of a machine gun on September 19, 2024. He was sentenced to 106 months imprisonment on December 19, 2024.

Officers also found a green backpack on the driver’s side floorboard where Sexton was seated. Inside were marijuana and cocaine hydrochloride packaged for distribution.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the New Orleans Police Department investigated this case. Assistant United States Attorney Brittany Reed of the Violent Crime/Strike Force Unit prosecuted it.

“Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that KYLIN SEXTON (“SEXTON”), age 25, a resident of Hammond, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown on July 24, 2025, to a sentence of time served, for possessing marijuana and cocaine hydrochloride, in violation of 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1) and (b)(1)(C). Additionally, SEXTON was ordered to serve three (3) years of supervised release following his release from prison.”
