A man from Gretna, Shayne Davis, age 36, has pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. The plea was entered on February 3, 2026, before U.S. District Judge Darrel J. Papillion. The announcement was made by United States Attorney David I. Courcelle.
Court records indicate that in March 2025, federal and local task force officers attempted to locate and arrest Davis, who was wanted for aggravated assault and felon in possession of a firearm charges. During the arrest attempt, Davis fled from law enforcement and discarded a firearm in a neighbor’s yard. Officers apprehended him soon after and found him with a nine-millimeter magazine. Authorities recovered the discarded Glock Model 26 Gen5 nine-millimeter pistol. A search at Davis’s residence led to the discovery of an FIE Titan .25 caliber handgun.
Davis is scheduled for sentencing on May 12, 2026. He faces up to fifteen years in prison, a possible $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and must pay a $100 special assessment fee.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, which coordinates resources from the Department of Justice to address illegal immigration issues and combat cartels and transnational criminal organizations while focusing on violent crime prevention efforts through initiatives like the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms investigated this case. Assistant United States Attorney Gregory M. Kennedy from the Violent Crime Unit prosecuted it.
