A Gonzales man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for drug and firearm offenses. Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Jules Gibson, 40, formerly of Gonzales, Louisiana, received his sentence on August 12, 2025, from United States District Judge Susie Morgan. Gibson had previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribute cocaine, as well as being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was sentenced to 120 months on each charge, with the sentences to run concurrently. Upon release from prison, Gibson will serve an eight-year term of supervised release.

Court documents show that a co-defendant who also pleaded guilty was arrested by Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies. During the arrest, deputies recovered several clear plastic bags containing cocaine and crack cocaine, a black digital scale, a Black Taurus PT 24/7 PRO handgun, and the co-defendant’s cell phone from his pick-up truck. Examination of the cell phone by Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office experts and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents revealed text messages, photographs, and other information documenting trafficking activities over an extended period. The records included evidence that Gibson was among the retail drug traffickers supplied by the co-defendant. Both purchases and payments by Gibson were documented. Gibson was later arrested by patrol officers in possession of a fully loaded Taurus PT140 PRO .40 caliber pistol.

Gibson had previously been convicted of a serious drug felony and faced increased penalties as a result.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which brings together law enforcement agencies at all levels with communities to reduce violent crime and gun violence. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a strategy to strengthen PSN through fostering trust in communities, supporting organizations that help prevent violence before it occurs, setting focused enforcement priorities, and measuring results.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Mark A. Miller of the Narcotics Unit prosecuted it.
