Georgia defeated LSU 13-8 on May 9 at Foley Field, with the Bulldogs taking an early lead after scoring eight runs in the second inning. Georgia now holds a record of 40-11 overall and 20-6 in the Southeastern Conference, while LSU stands at 29-23 overall and 9-17 in conference play.
The outcome matters as both teams are competing for position within their conference, and the result affects their standings heading into the final games of the regular season. The teams will conclude their series on Sunday afternoon, with coverage available on the LSU Sports Radio Network and SEC Network.
“Georgia is the best offense in college baseball,” said LSU coach Jay Johnson. “They just put together great at-bats; their power is one thing, but the difficulty in striking them out has probably what has impressed me the most.”
Paul Farley earned his sixth win of the season for Georgia by pitching three and two-thirds scoreless innings, allowing three hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Marcos Paz started for LSU but was charged with seven runs over one and one-third innings.
Key moments included a grand slam by Georgia third baseman Michael O’Shaughnessy and a two-run home run from designated hitter Jordy Oriach during Georgia’s eight-run second inning. Cade Arrambide hit a three-run double for LSU to narrow the gap briefly before Georgia extended its lead again in later innings. Chris Stanfield hit a three-run homer for LSU in the eighth inning, while O’Shaughnessy added another solo home run for Georgia.
Looking ahead, both teams will meet again to close out their series as they prepare for postseason play.
