U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) has released a statement and video marking the two-year anniversary of the October 7 terrorist attacks in Israel, which resulted in the deaths of over a thousand Israelis and Americans. Cassidy also joined Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) in introducing a resolution that condemns Iran-backed Hamas for its actions, calls for the return of all remaining hostages, and expresses support for Israel.
“When you see the images and hear the stories of what families endured on October 7th, your heart breaks,” said Dr. Cassidy. “We stand with Israel and against the antisemitism that fuels Hamas. Let’s end the war with President Trump’s peace deal.”
Senator Cassidy praised former President Trump’s efforts to develop a proposed peace agreement between Israel and Gaza.
In his role as Chair of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, Cassidy is leading initiatives to address antisemitism on college campuses after the attacks. During a HELP Committee hearing about disruptions related to antisemitism at universities, he announced an investigation into American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), alleging their involvement in organizing demonstrations associated with violence and antisemitism on campuses nationwide. Additionally, Cassidy introduced legislation called the Protecting Students on Campus Act to require universities to address discrimination issues and maintain safe environments for students.
