U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) has introduced the American Energy Security Act of 2025, a bill designed to reauthorize the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s (PHMSA) Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure Safety and Modernization (NGDISM) Grant Program. The program provides grants aimed at improving the safety and modernization of natural gas distribution pipeline infrastructure.

“America and the world run on Louisiana natural gas,” said Dr. Cassidy. “We strengthen our country by strengthening our pipeline system.”

Since its inception, Louisiana has received $95 million in funding for efforts to modernize and secure its pipeline infrastructure.

Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) joined Cassidy in introducing the legislation.

The NGDISM Grant Program supports communities in replacing older, leak-prone pipelines with newer systems, with goals that include increased safety, greater reliability, and reduced methane emissions.
