U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy has announced that Jefferson Transit will receive nearly $3 million to upgrade bus stops across its service area. The funding, totaling $2,975,000, is intended to bring the bus stops into compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. The money comes from a combination of Congressionally Directed Spending and resources from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act through the Federal Transit Administration.
“Jefferson Parish families rely on these routes to get to work, school, the grocery store, appointments, and more,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This project ensures the stops along the way are safer and more accessible.”
The upgrades aim to modernize bus stop locations throughout Jefferson Parish in order to improve accessibility for riders and enhance their overall experience.
Senator Cassidy has played a significant role in directing federal funds to Louisiana since taking office. According to Roll Call, in fiscal year 2024 he was among the top 20 senators nationwide in total funding secured for his state. He was also one of only five senators in that group who does not serve on the Appropriations Committee. That year, Cassidy secured a record $1.3 billion for Louisiana—the highest amount among members of Louisiana’s congressional delegation.
