The LSU track and field team began its weekend competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 16, with notable performances from its distance squad at Cougar Athletic Stadium in Azusa, California.
The highlight of Thursday’s events was freshman Abigael Chemnagei finishing sixth in the women’s 10,000-meter invitational. Chemnagei posted a time of 32:45.75, which ranks as the second-fastest performance in LSU program history for that event. The only athlete ahead of her on the school’s all-time list is teammate Edna Chepkemoi, who placed sixteenth overall with a time of 33:32.54.
In addition to Chemnagei’s achievement, members of LSU’s steeplechase group also moved up in school records during Thursday’s competition. Sophomore Ahry Comer ran a time of 10:30.76—the sixth-best mark ever recorded by an LSU athlete—while senior Svenya Stoyanoff finished with a time of 10:33.67, now eighth on the program’s all-time list.
These results reflect continued progress for both established and emerging athletes within the team as they compete against national talent during this part of their outdoor season.
